O Exército Brasileiro está realizando mais uma edição da Operação Ágata na região de Nonoai. Mais de 150 homens do Exército Brasileiro, da Aritilharia Divisionária da 3ª Divisão do Exército, unidade de Cruz Alta, estão instalados em Nonoai, no antigo Ginásio de Esportes, no centro da cidade.
Os pontos de bloqueio e fiscalização serão em uma raio de 80km, nas estradas de acesso, que possam ser usadas como rota para o tráfico de drogas, contrabando, descaminho e outros crimes. O Objetivo da Operação Ágata é dar mais segurança nas regiões de fronteira, coibindo o contrabando, tráfico de drogas, descaminho e crimes ambientais. A Operação é realizada com o apoio das forças de Segurança Pública Estadual e Federal.
