Dois menores de idade morreram afogados no Rio da Prata, que fica na localidade de Estrada Velha, próximo de uma ponte que liga as cidades de André da Rocha e Nova Prata. Um menino de 13 anos e uma menina de 14 anos se afogaram na tarde desta quarta-feira.
Conforme informações do Corpo de Bombeiros de Veranópolis, uma guarnição foi deslocada e ao chegar no local se deparou com uma ocorrência de afogamento onde um grupo de jovens estava se banhando e estava se afogando.
Duas crianças de 10 e 12 anos foram retiradas da água por um familiar e encaminhadas pelo Samu para o Hospital São João Batista, de Nova Prata, e liberadas ainda na noite de quarta. O corpo do menino de 13 anos foi resgatado sem vida por volta das 20h e nesta quinta-feira, no início da manhã, foi localizada a segunda vítima, a jovem de 14 anos.
Para o resgate dos corpos foram utilizados botes de salvamento, garatéias e técnicas de mergulho. Foi realizada varreduras no fundo do rio. O local onde as crianças se afogaram tem aproximadamente 3 metros de profundidade.
