Trabalhadores descobrem túmulos da era romana em obra na Faixa de Gaza
Operários de uma obra em construção no norte da Faixa de Gaza descobriram 31 túmulos da era romana, que datam do século I d.C., informaram nesta segunda-feira autoridades do enclave palestino controlado pelo movimento islamita Hamas. As sepulturas foram encontradas nas redondezas da cidade de Beit Lahia, em uma área residencial.
Naji Sarhan, funcionário do ministério de Obras Públicas de Gaza, confirmou a descoberta e destacou que há "provas" da presença de outros túmulos nesse local.A obra foi interrompida e especialistas do ministério de Antiguidades e Turismo de Gaza começaram reportar as lápides e outros objetos encontrados, informaram as autoridades.
Um dos especialistas, que pediu anonimato, afirmou que acredita-se que esses túmulos fazem parte de um cemitério vinculado ao sítio próximo Balajiya.
É a mais recente descoberta na Faixa de Gaza, onde as visitas turísticas a sítios arqueológicos foram restringidas após o bloqueio imposto por Israel ao enclave a partir da tomada de poder por parte do Hamas, em 2007.
Israel e Egito, ambos fronteiriços com a Faixa de Gaza, onde vivem cerca de 2,3 milhões de palestinos em áreas superlotadas, aplicam severas restrições às entradas e saídas neste território palestino.No mês passado, o Hamas reabriu uma igreja bizantina que data do século V, após anos de trabalhos de restauração, graças a doações estrangeiras.
