Medicamento para tratar atrofia espinhal muscular é incluído no SUS
O medicamento risdiplam, para tratamento de Atrofia Muscular Espinhal (AME) tipo I, está incorporado a partir desta segunda-feira (14) ao Sistema Único de Saúde (SUS).
A portaria da Secretaria de Ciência, Tecnologia, Inovação e Insumos Estratégicos em Saúde do Ministério da Saúde, determinando a inclusão do medicamento, está publicada no Diário Oficial da União de hoje.
Segundo Ministério da Saúde, a AME é uma doença genética que interfere na capacidade do corpo de produzir uma proteína considerada essencial para a sobrevivência dos neurônios motores. Sem ela, os neurônios morrem e as pessoas vão perdendo controle e força musculares, ficando incapacitados de se moverem, engolirem ou mesmo respirarem. O quadro é degenerativo e não tem cura.
A Atrofia Muscular Espinhal possui quatro subtipos, distintos conforme a idade de início dos sintomas. O tipo 1 é o mais grave da doença. A sua incidência é de um caso para cada seis a 11 mil nascidos vivos.
