Além de Rômulo, a diretoria do Grêmio trabalha para reforçar o time de Renato Portaluppi em outras duas posições. Exatamente por isso mantém negociações por Rodrigo Caio, zagueiro do São Paulo, e Emmanuel Mas, lateral esquerdo do Boca Juniors.
Após realizar um Campeonato Brasileiro irregular, Rodrigo Caio, que tem 25 anos, não teria mais clima para permanecer no São Paulo. O zagueiro também teria se indisposto com o ex-técnico Diego Aguirre, antes do uruguaio ser demitido por conta dos resultados ruins da equipe. Nem mesmo a classificação para a pré-Libertadores garante a permanência de Caio no Morumbi. A ideia gremista é se aproveitar da situação para tentar fechar o negócio.
Já o lateral Emmanuel Mas, de 29 anos, teria sido oferecido ao Tricolor. Atualmente, o Grêmio conta com Cortez, como titular, e Marcelo Oliveira é seu reserva imediato. O ala reserva estaria fazendo a migração para a defesa e, com isso, uma vaga na posição ficaria em aberto. Além disso, Mas no Boca Juniors é apenas uma opção para Olaza. O antigo titular no time Xeneize era Fabra, que está voltando de lesão e pode retomar sua posição ou no mínimo disputar posição com Olaza, deixando Emmanuel Mas como segundo reserva.
